Entertaining in the garden

A large dining terrace adjoins the kitchen and living space, creating one seamless level. The planting bed bordering the dining area contains a simple raised corten steel pool and is surrounded by shade tolerant yet floriferous planting aimed to provide year-round interest. The shady seating area is hidden under a curved oak pergola covered with a rambling rose. Natural stone steps lead to the lawn where a third sunny seating area is found.

A productive garden with ‘edimentals’

Existing fruit and nut trees are preserved with the addition of a trio of new fruit trees. Edible ornamentals are tucked away in the border, and a series of raised beds with ample wheelbarrow room can be found behind the greenhouse.

An accessible garden

A water feature or statuesque planter draws visitors from the house into the garden. The view of the lawn is framed by buff Yorkstone steps. A side ramp aids mower, wheelbarrow and wheelchair access. From the lawn, a second set of steps invites visitors to explore the pergola and admire the surrounding sunny border.

Reclaimed materials

The existing stone setts have been reworked into edging for the garden path and an inviting entranceway into the front door.

Privacy in the garden

A specimen fruiting medlar blocks the view of the garage and turns the visitor right around the garden past two further focal points.

Pleached hornbeam offer privacy from the neighbours while allowing light through.
Planting and the greenhouse have a classic country style with sufficient interest throughout the year plant choices reflect varying levels of sunlight throughout the garden.
